At 7pm the blue lights services congregated at the PEH and islanders came out of their homes to show their support. It was timed to coincide with International Nurses Day and aimed to recognise not only nurses and frontline workers, but all of the community together.

At the hospital all three emergency services attended. They were joined by hospital staff.

Among them was Heather Renouf, the practice development lead for Frossard Ward and the neonatal unit.

‘Having had Covid over the last year, it is important to recognise everything that’s been done,’ she said.

Guernsey Fire and Rescue’s red watch also attended.

Acting watch commander Andy Gibson said one of the reasons they were there was to show their support for all the work nurses did for the community. The event follows in the lockdown tradition of clapping to show support in reference to the time when islanders could not meet in person. During the first lockdown, Thursday nights became the time to clap.
