Many islanders are currently undertaking the Les Bourgs fundraiser to do 30 rides in 30 days.

But a nine-strong team from Ravencroft is not only doing 60 minutes every day during May, they also spent a weekend doing a 30-hour ride.

Ravenscroft group financial controller Tristan Brown said the group were keen cyclists who were keen to push themselves.

‘We decided that for 30 continuous hours at least one of us would be out on their bike and we would start and finish with a whole group ride,’ he said.

‘It was a logistical challenge as it had to be done outside normal work hours and fit in with other commitments including children and pets.’

The team, which also included Robin Newbould, Toby Peatfield, Pierre Paul, Jon Pope, Ben Byrom, Paul Matthews, Jake Le Marchant and Max Robin, started at 7am on Saturday and over the 30 hours until 1pm on Sunday they experienced rain, sun and wind.

The ride was Mr Brown’s idea.

‘I volunteered to do from midnight until 6am and a few minutes after 12, it started raining,’ he said.

‘It was a long night but a real achievement when Paul and I handed over at 6am, having completed 80 miles.

‘Over the 30 hours we travelled 441 miles, although in reality it was many more given we often had more than one person out. More importantly, we added £2,000 to our fundraising tally in one weekend.’

The team originally set themselves a target of £3,000 but have since increased this to £3,750 and then again to £5,000.

‘Our colleagues, clients, friends and family have been incredibly generous and we have now raised more than £5,000. We will continue fundraising and the mufti day money raised by Ravenscroft for this quarter will also be added.

‘Every penny will go to Les Bourgs Hospice to allow them to continue offering care to islanders with life-limiting illnesses at a time when it is most needed.’
