Covid-safe Comedy Festival postponed due to travel controls
ORGANISERS of the Guernsey Festival of Covid-Safe Comedy were not laughing yesterday after they were forced to postpone the first gig.
The festival was due to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday this coming week.
The problem was that the four comedians heading to the island all live in London, which is categorised as an amber zone by the Guernsey authorities, and requires a seven-day isolation period.
The organisers of the festival had expected that London would be designated a green zone at this stage, but that was found to be overly-optimistic.
So next week's scheduled headliner Reginald D Hunter is now expected to visit on 13 and 14 July, with Irish comedian Ed Byrne the first to play in Guernsey towards the end of June.
Ticket holders can contact Beau Sejour for refunds, or to rebook for the later dates.
Organiser Darren Vogel apologised for the inconvenience, but said the gig would still go ahead later.
‘Obviously we’re gutted, the comedians have been really excited about getting on stage, but we totally understand the need for strict controls.’
Co-organiser Darrell Martin said it was disappointing, but that rules were rules.
‘I wish that the UK had been so strict on the border controls because the lack of that has led to so many problems in the UK, so I totally understand and I’m in admiration of the controls here, but also a bit frustrated.’
