Windows broken at car showroom ‘pure malicious vandalism’
VANDALS destroyed two floor-to-ceiling windows at Carrus Autoparts showroom overnight on Tuesday, leaving a floor of glass for the owner to discover in the morning.
The windows at the Landes du Marche site are each about 9ft by 6ft and appear to have been smashed with a hammer, leaving dangerous hanging shards of glass still in the frames.
Carrus sells second-hand cars and parts and does repairs and maintenance on vehicles – none of which were damaged.
Co-director Jeremy Marquis said he went to unlock the front door and noticed a hole in the window.
‘There was glass everywhere. Nothing was stolen and nothing else was damaged. It was pure malicious vandalism.’
He said staff were waiting for the windows to be boarded up to make them safer so they could continue working.
‘It’s a bit breezy and it won’t be very attractive with plywood where the glass should be, but we have cleared up and we can continue to operate.’
A police spokesman said: ‘This would have made a considerable amount of noise and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have heard anything.’
