Firms to pull up socks for Bermuda Shorts Week
BERMUDA SHORTS will be back in fashion at the end of June as the charity Mug’s Bermuda Shorts Week returns to the business districts of the island.
Male Uprising Guernsey wants to raise awareness of male cancers such as prostate, bowel and testicular, and intends that its £10,000 fundraising target will be used to buy sun cream and provide sun sense and skin cancer education in local schools.
It is hoping for 500 people to sign up individually or through corporate sponsorship and has already reached nearly a quarter of its target.
‘We always look forward to Bermuda Shorts Week in our fundraising calendar,’ said Mug council member Mike Richards.
‘Not only is it a fun and visual way for the community to show their support, but it also raises invaluable funds and awareness for what we do. As charities continue to experience the impact of the pandemic, we are incredibly thankful to Butterfield for its continued support and the anticipated support from the Guernsey community as a whole – protecting the children of the Bailiwick is important to us all.’
The week is sponsored by Butterfield, the full service bank and wealth manager headquartered in Bermuda.
‘With our headquarters in Bermuda, supporting this initiative is a fitting way to support our local community while giving a nod to our business’s roots,’ said Lindsay Ozanne, managing director of Butterfield Trust in Guernsey.
‘Many of our employees enjoy getting involved, including our Jersey colleagues, who will also be joining in across the water on the Friday.
‘We can’t wait to see the office and Town awash with shorts and socks this summer.’
The week will kick off with a welcome breakfast at The Boathouse on Monday 28 June.
