CoFE apprentices’ work a cut above
COIFFED hairstyles of all kinds were paraded in front of a large audience at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts for the College of FE hair show.
The annual event, at which students can showcase their skills, is normally done jointly with the beauty department. But Covid disruption meant the haircuts were the star of the show.
There were 19 hairdressing NVQ level two and level three apprentices involved.
Head lecturer Mark Rayment said the students had seen their studies disrupted by the pandemic, but had still been working hard.
The show was themed around creativity, diversity and tenacity, with students’ ideas coming to life in hairstyles.
‘Tenacity is because after locking down twice, students have had to do a lot of home learning,’ Mr Rayment said.
‘They had to work through all those challenges and in the end they are able to put on this show to celebrate their work.’
During lockdown the students were often doing their theory work, as well as working on hair dolls.
Mr Rayment said it had been a lot of work for the students to put in for the show, especially with the disruption. But he said it was important for giving the students confidence and taking them out of their comfort zone.
The show was an entertainment spectacular, with dancing and singing, as well as the hair models.
Each student had one model and had to put together a particular themed look.
They started work at 2pm to ensure their models were ready for showtime at 7pm.
