Two traffic wardens were on the scene directing traffic while a States Works lorry was used to clear the spill using water.

‘We got called in at roughly 9.45am just to close the road and make sure it is safe,’ said traffic warden Russell Welbourne.

From the junction of La Vrangue and Mont Arrive it was one-way to the Bouet junction traffic lights.

Sawdust was used to absorb and contain the worst of the spill.

‘Obviously there’s quite a bit of paint, maybe for 100 yards down the road, so we had to get States Works in.

‘The van it was on had the paint securely fastened down, but it’s just one of those things where it’s an unlucky accident and it came off. They called it in to get us down here.’
