Jack donates his long locks to the Little Princess Trust
A TEN-YEAR-OLD spent three years growing his hair to donate it to the Little Princess Trust.
Jack Le Flem barely recognised himself after his long hair was cut at Meraki Hair.
He has raised more than £1,500 for the trust, to fund the £550 cost to create a wig.
Bespoke wigs are then donated to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.
‘I feel good, yeah. I was feeling a bit scared,’ Jack said.
‘I didn’t know what it would look like.
‘My friends said they don’t remember a time when I didn’t have long hair, so I don’t know what they’ll say.
‘When it was being cut off I thought wow, I don’t really recognise myself.’
Jack’s mum, Julia, said on Friday morning that she was thinking of how it would be the last time she brushed it.
‘For school I plait it, rope plait it or put it in a top knot,’ she said.
‘I’m sure when all his mates hit 13 or 14 they’ll all want long hair and he’ll have already done it.’
Once separated into ponytails, Jack’s dad Andy told him there was no going back now.
Hair stylist Hannah Collenette snipped off 20 bunches measuring about 33cm, which she said were in good condition.
‘Nobody’s going to recognise him, and I can’t believe he managed to raise over £1,400,’ Mr Le Flem said.
‘Without wanting to embarrass him, when he was six he wanted to be a superhero with really long hair. It was a new one he made up that uses hair as a weapon.’
Another friend had grown his hair for the trust.
‘So he started planning after that. All his friends have been completely cool with it.’
Afterwards they went out for dinner to celebrate and the next day Jack had football club.
Jack’s brother, seven-year-old Oscar, said he liked the new look.
