The weather deteriorated during the evening, but spirits remained high as they arrived in Town.

Pink Ladies chairwoman Karen Leach said: ‘It’s our 20th anniversary and our eighth Sunset Walk, raising awareness of breast cancer, cancer screening and living with and beyond cancer.

‘The last 15 months have taught us all that we never know what is around the corner. Including the rain today.

‘So most importantly we want to thank you for celebrating our 20th anniversary with us today. You help us save lives. Let’s live every moment.’

The Pink Ladies was set up 20 years ago with the aim of supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer in the Bailiwick. The Sunset Walk is an important fundraiser for the charity.

Among the walkers were friends Michelle Thacker and Claire Rogers.

‘This is my first time taking part and it’s fabulous,’ Mrs Thacker said.

‘Everyone is here and raising money. I came because I wanted to support my friend Claire.’

Mrs Rogers was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago, shortly after moving to the island. She said the Pink Ladies had been so supportive of her and now she wanted to give something back.
