KGV could axe Euros big screen after damage
THE future of live Euro 2020 matches on the big screen at KGV is in doubt after over-exuberant football fans caused damage while watching England’s 2-0 win over Germany on Tuesday.
An estimated 800 people gathered at the playing fields, and a small minority were said to have taken their celebrations too far.
Several benches were damaged by people jumping up on top of them, and this also created holes in the decking underneath the benches.
While it was accepted that the damage was not caused maliciously, Mark Latter, director at the KGV Playing Fields, said it was ‘very disappointing’ . The venue is now ‘considering our options’ regarding the hired big screen.
The clean up operation was well under way yesterday morning to collect all the empty cans and litter left at the site.
. England play Ukraine on Saturday night, kick-off 8pm, in the quarter finals of the tournament.
