HSBC has donated £1,000 towards the costs of the annual summer Town bunting.

Each summer a team of volunteers puts up the display, along with coordinator Andrew Pouteaux.

‘The last 12 months had been a challenging time for Town retailers and it’s especially important that the Town looks beautiful. The bunting is synonymous with summer in St Peter Port – it makes a real difference to the atmosphere.’

HSBC has also offered to provide volunteers to help with the decorations.

Event Services, with the help of volunteers, will put up and take down the bunting through the Lower Pollet, La Plaiderie, Le Pollet, Smith Street, High Street, Mill Street and Fountain Street, while volunteers alone deal with the bunting in the Arcade – it cannot be accessed by a lorry. They will work on weekends and early mornings to reduce any disruption to deliveries and shoppers.

Korinne Le Page, head of the Guernsey Retail Group, added: ‘We can’t overstate how much vibrancy the bunting adds to our Town and we are very grateful to HSBC and all supporters for their generosity, ongoing enthusiasm and time given to this project.’

The bunting will be taken down in October.

Other sponsors include Cherry Godfrey, Hansa, the St Peter Port douzaine, Sarnia Memorial Trust and Ravenscroft. Contact andrew.pouteaux@virgin.net for further information.
