Environment & Infrastructure has applied to replace the door, roof and windows on the derelict structure, which stands on the lower section of Candie Road, close to the junction with St Julian’s Avenue. The building was used to sell tickets until at least the 1950s, but has fallen into disrepair in recent years.

An Agriculture, Countryside & Land Management Services spokeswoman said it was keen to repair the structure.

‘For many years it has been covered in ivy, but just before the second lockdown we requested it be cleared so that we could assess its condition and consider its future,’ she said.

‘Since then, we have been in discussions with a third party to consider its repair and are delighted that local builder Arthur Leadbeater has kindly offered to restore and repair the building.

‘Restoration can begin once the planning permission has been granted, but an exact timeframe cannot be given as the project will need to fit around the contractor’s workload.

‘There are currently no plans for the building to be used as it is a very small space with no electricity, however we are delighted that it will stand as a nice piece of Guernsey’s history.’
