Street Festival flags thrown into marina

FIVE of 20 ‘feather flags’ promoting this year’s Street Festival were ripped from their holders and thrown into the Victoria Marina just two days after they were put up.

Damage was caused to one of the boats moored below but Street Festival organiser Dominique Ogier said she was not aware of what exactly this was.

‘Obviously the person who owns the boat is quite upset,’ she said.

‘The damage sounds like it might be quite substantial.’

Some of the flags were recovered and Miss Ogier hoped that they could be put back.

The flags were erected in the same spots as those which had been promoting Guernsey Together.

Guernsey Street Festival is a charity which took over the former Town Carnival and this year will see its first festival, which is due to start in about two weeks.

It cost the charity £4,000 for the flags and Miss Ogier was not sure how much damage has been done and how much it might cost to replace them.

‘It’s really disheartening,’ she said.

‘We found a few of them but we don’t know how many have come back, or if they’re salvageable and not too damaged.’

The damage was done on Sunday night. ‘I’ve made a formal complaint to the police.’

She hoped that CCTV in the area would be able to help police find the perpetrators.
