Carl Stanford said the display had taken his family about five-and-a-half days to build.

‘We thought what do scarecrows do, and came up with the idea of Crowbusters,’ said Mr Stanford.

The exhibit was constructed of materials including plywood, chicken wire and papier mache, with real feathers for the head and tail.

While it was displayed near the church, the family built it at their home at Les Jehans which is not on the trail.

‘Due to the rain and lightning we couldn’t put it up on Friday so had to get up at 4am on Saturday,’ said Mr Stanford, an actuary.

‘At 5am we were carrying this huge crow along the lane from our house. We finished putting it up just before the judging started at 10.30am.’

The family previously won the judge’s award a few years back with their take on The Daleks. They have also won The People’s Choice before.
