‘It is a really special event’

BEING named Neighbour of the Year at last year’s Pride of Guernsey Awards was ‘the most thrilling thing ever,’ said winner Nikki Kerr.

‘I just loved it. It cheered up my family and gave us all a good lift,’ she said.

Mrs Kerr also enjoyed being part of the awards ceremony.

‘It was a very special event. I went with my husband and they treated us like royalty.

‘To get to know the other nominees and hear their stories is really humbling. I was very touched.

‘The awards really highlight the importance of doing things for other people, especially in the last year.

‘It was just so sweet. I loved every minute of it.’

Along with the other winners, Mrs Kerr received a prize of £1,000 and a medal ‘which I love’. They used their prize money on a couple of staycation breaks with the family. Mrs Kerr said they were ‘really special’.

‘It brings to mind that anybody could be nominated. Everybody I know does something for others,’ she said.

‘I would absolutely encourage people to nominate others for the award. It’s something you’d never do for yourself but it’s lovely to be recognised.

‘I will never forget it.’

It is not too late to nominate someone for a Pride of Guernsey Award, including Neighbour of the Year, which is sponsored by Guernsey Gas.

To do so, go to prideofguernsey.com or use the nomination form in the newspaper.
