Dr Chambers is up for the Carer of the Year award, sponsored by Specsavers.

‘She not only cares about her patients – the animals – she is also very aware of the owner and their worries and upsets.

‘Obviously the animals come first but she’s very aware that the owners are also important. She cares about us.

‘When an animal has come to the end of its life, she is amazing.’

Recently, Mrs Cormack lost one of her cats, Agatha.

‘She had to be put to sleep. Billie was so aware that this was an adored cat. She was so kind.

Cynthia has three other cats – Patou, Nimuan and Togo.

‘They’re all very elderly. Billie is looking after Togo at the moment.’

Billie has worked at Isabelle Vets since November 2019 when she moved to Guernsey.

‘I really like the bond you develop between patient, vet and owner – I think this is really important. Covid has really highlighted the value that pets bring to our lives.

‘I am flattered to be nominated – it’s lovely that someone put my name forward – but I couldn’t do my job without the team of dedicated, hard-working vets, nurses and receptionists at Isabelle Vets, as well as the GSPCA, local farmers and farriers and local charities such as Cat Concern.

‘There is a real community here and a love of animals which is fantastic and should be cherished.’

Cynthia concluded, ‘She’s an absolutely amazing woman. Guernsey is very fortunate to have such a vet in the island.’
