‘DAVID PIESING has given endless amounts of time to Guernsey Cricket,’ said Ben Ferbrache of why he nominated him for the Sure-sponsored Sports Volunteer of the Year award.

‘He has been a big driver in junior cricket on the island, heading up Wanderers Irregulars Junior Section and creating an excellent coaching structure within the club.

‘During the past two years, where travel has been restricted, Dave has also created several other games of cricket, giving up endless amounts of his time to assist with these fixtures.’

An example of this is the Guernsey Over 45s vs. Elizabeth College First XI match, which ‘started out as an initiative to give the Elizabeth College boys more meaningful matches during the summer holidays last year because their season was completely decimated by lockdown’, explained David.

‘It was so successful that we played a three-match series instead of the one-off match that was intended originally. We then repeated it this year and we’re now hoping that it will be an annual event.’

David has played cricket since he was at school and now is a member of the Guernsey Cricket Board, the president of Wanderers Cricket Club, runs and coaches the Wanderers Irregulars Junior Section, umpires and still plays cricket.

‘I believe Dave is an excellent ambassador for not only the clubs he represents but the island as a whole, given the huge amounts of time he has given to allow junior cricket to excel in Guernsey,’ said Ben.
