Busy as last show in 2019, says president

THERE was no sign of the West Show winding down on its final day, with thousands of people coming to enjoy another activity-filled afternoon and evening.

All seats were filled once again for the three headlining acts, with two one-off performances also taking place to celebrate the last day.

L’Assembllaie d’Guernesais made an appearance showcasing their traditional dancing, with music played on an accordion.

In keeping with the agricultural and horticultural theme of the show, the Vintage Tractor Drive came shortly after as more than 50 tractors were driven by their owners around the arena.

Show president Mark Le Prevost considered the show to be a success and estimated footfall to be around the same as it was at the last show in 2019.

‘Not having the fair we’ve been able to change lots around,’ he said.

‘We’ve had good reports from people that they like the changes.’

The three headlining acts coming from in and around the UK brought a sense of normality back to the event after it was cancelled last year.

‘We had a good mixture of types of entertainers,’ said Mr Le Prevost. ‘Dr Phantasma were super and drew big crowds, the Meirion Owen and the Quack Pack were fantastic.

‘We have had Steve [Colley, motorcycle stunt rider] before, so we knew what he could do.’

The committee has already started planning for next year, and has also put into place arrangements for entertainment as far as 2023, which will be the centenary show.

‘If we want something good, you have to book it 12-18 months before.’

‘Next year we’ve got some UK acts planned and maybe one from France.’
