NORTH SHOW organisers are hoping to attract up to 10,000 islanders this week, as the show celebrates 100 years.

The two-day show is run by the Northern Agricultural and Horticultural Society and highlights Guernsey’s traditional industries each year in Saumarez Park.

Show manager Josh Gabriel said the event has a fully packed schedule running from 10am tomorrow until 11pm Thursday.

‘We’re really pulling out all of the stops this year, and actually planning a lot of free activities for families to enjoy, as well as the typical,’ he said.

‘It’s important – we know this show is a huge part of the lifeblood of the summer calendar for a lot of people.’

There will be interactive circus acts, bouncy castle parks, beer tents, BMX stunt shows and much more.

Mr Gabriel said that celebrating the show’s centenary and return, after being cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions, meant this year was going to be bigger and better than ever.

There will be a large performance space, dozens of tents, food stalls, competitions and a grand outdoor stage featuring a range of local bands and the UK’s number one Abba tribute band – Gimme Abba – tomorrow from 8pm until 10.30pm.

Mr Gabriel added that although Covid has continued to interfere with organisation this year, better preparation and communication with the authorities has allowed the event to continue regardless.

‘It’s been a real challenge again this year, we’ve had to cancel and rebook a lot of entertaining acts because they just haven’t been double vaccinated yet, but we’ve been able to compensate for that – it has been a bit of a headache though,’ he said.

‘We’ve worked really closely with Public Health, our tents are quite high roofed so there’s a lot of ventilation and on top of that there are a lot of hand washing and sanitising stations dotted around too that we encourage people to use.’

In a bid to get more young people to this year’s show, entry will be free for under-16s.

  • Tickets for tomorrow are £6 for adults and £4 for pensioners.

On Thursday, which is Battle of Flowers day, tickets are £8 for adults and £5 for pensioners.

Children 16 and under go free on both days.

Car parking is available at the Home Farm field, located at the back of the park, for £2.
