Described as an accident black spot by St Andrew’s constable Martin Thwaite, there were four crashes on the St Andrew’s Road/Candie Road/La Vassalerie crossroads last year.
‘The constables have become increasingly concerned by reports of accidents, near misses and speeding at this junction,’ he said.
‘Both parishioners and islanders will be aware it has been an accident black spot for many years, and now increasing traffic in the area has made the installation of a filter necessary. The St Andrew’s Douzaine support this initiative and ongoing monitoring of traffic in the area.’
The filter will be installed on the junction – also known as the Chainhouse crossroads – next Tuesday.
Additional temporary signage warning of the new junction layout, along with the provision of bollards and LED road studs will be installed to help drivers in using the filter.
A Traffic & Highway Services spokesman said the installation was the next step in efforts to improve safety at the junction following previous improvements to warning signs and road markings on the approaches to the junction.
It is hoped that the filter will slow traffic as drivers approach with care, which would make the area safer.
THS has consulted with key stakeholders on the initiative, who have been supportive. It, like all new filters, is being installed on a 12-month trial basis.
