‘Great to see new generation getting involved’
THE North Show returned to its former glory after a difficult 18 months of Covid-19 uncertainty.
The event kicked off yesterday at Saumarez Park with activities and judged competitions for all ages and abilities.
‘It’s been a wonderful time today, and all of our entrants really pulled out all the stops,’ said Ann Mauger, North Show committee member.
Mrs Mauger highlighted that the child entrants in particular had a lot to be proud of.
‘It’s great to see what so many of [the] talented kids have put forward. The imagination for the things they’ve come up with is impressive,’ she said.
Another committee member, Tony Yates, said he was quite happy with the turnout for the event.
Mr Yates was in the flower judging tent at lunch time, and when he came outside, the show was buzzing with people.
‘It’s gone very well, and I thought it was very busy,’ he said.
Mr Yates was encouraged to see young people participating in judged competitions and submitting entries in different categories.
‘These young people are going to be the ones to carry on these traditions long after we’re gone,’ he said. ‘It’s great to see them taking part, especially now that North Show is in its hundredth year.’
Although Mr Yates said it was difficult to book acts and games from the UK this year, he was very happy with how everything turned out.
‘We’ve done everything as local as we can, and the kids have quite a selection of entertainment. Thursday is our big day, so we’re all very excited and getting ready for that,’ he said.
Tents displayed the talents and skills of local agriculturalists, bakers and husbandry while a whole area was dedicated to games and activities for children. Throughout the day, displays and performances were scheduled for the main arena, and food was available at various vendors.
