House fire in Rectory Hill on Sunday

FIREFIGHTERS with breathing apparatus were called in to tackle a house fire on Sunday evening.

The emergency services were called at about 8pm.

Police, firefighters and ambulance staff attended the incident on the Rue de la Croix estate on Rectory Hill.

White watch commander Nick Affleck said all the property residents and pets were safely evacuated by the time the emergency services arrived.

Ambulance crews assessed a total of six casualties and following initial assessment by clinicians at the scene, five people were transferred by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for further care.

The emergency service stayed on the scene for about two hours.

The exact cause of the fire was being investigated.
