Butterfield scholarship awarded to multi-sport star Caitlin
A GUERNSEY student has won a scholarship worth £18,000 a year as she pursues her dream to become a sports physiologist.
Caitlin Torode was awarded one of four global scholarships offered by Butterfield across the jurisdictions where it operates, which includes Guernsey.
The undergraduate scholarship for employees’ children (European) is for the duration of her course.
The 18-year-old is studying for a bachelor of science degree in sports and exercise science at the University of Surrey.
‘I am so grateful for this opportunity, it will help me achieve my goal to be a sports physiologist,’ she said.
‘I want to fulfil my passion of helping people and give back to sport and the community.
‘I am looking forward to meeting and working with the Butterfield team over the course of my degree.’
She holds the island record for the discus and is an accomplished equestrian, having competed in showjumping at a national level.
‘Congratulations to Caitlin and all of our well-deserving scholars. We wish them the best and look forward to following their achievements,’ said Andrew Burns, Butterfield’s group head of human resources.
‘Our scholarship programme is something we are proud of and, together with our graduate trainee programme and summer internships, we hope to empower young people to pursue their career aspirations in the financial services industry and beyond.
‘Butterfield has been investing in education for the last 43 years, starting in Bermuda and expanding across all the communities we call home.
‘In the last four years, we have given more than $2m. and remain committed to doing our part going forwards.’
