Environmental consciousness is at the core of the Strategy for Nature, which has been launched by Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services.

The initiative will support individuals, educational facilities and charity organisations in projects that benefit the environment and community.

It will also dovetail with ACLMS’s objectives of the management and conservation of Guernsey’s natural environment.

The money will be awarded to projects that are aligned with the goals of the strategy, which include connecting the island's community with nature, caring for nature to ensure diversity, and sharing knowledge about nature.

Of this, up to £9,000 will be split between up to three students who are completing graduate or post graduate degrees in a relevant subject with a commitment to carry out data collection for their research project on-island.

The remainder is available to local charities, education facilities and the general public to fund projects based in Guernsey or Herm which meet at least one of the objectives.

In the past, ACLMS has provided funding for several community projects and charities in the island, including the Pollinator Project and La Societe Guernesiaise for the running costs of SeaSearch.

n Applications are open from today and close on 1 November.
