Couple celebrate 60 years
A COUPLE are today celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.
Leona, 80, and Rex, 83, Trott will be celebrating the special 60-year milestone with their family.
Rex was born in Guernsey, while Leona was born in UK, where her family had been evacuated during the war.
They met and fell in love during ballroom dancing classes at Clifton in the 1950s.
After six years courting they married at Town Church on 14 September 1961, with a reception at the Grandes Rocques Hotel, followed by a honeymoon in London.
The couple were both hard workers, with Mr Trott employed as a heating engineer for many years.
That saw him initially working in glasshouses, but later in domestic settings.
Mrs Trott worked at Tektronix and later became a manageress at Guernsey Woollens.
The couple had two children – Lyndon and Beverley – and they now have six grandchildren, a number of whom have inherited Mr Trott’s red hair.
Like many couples, they have had to support each other through tough times and in recent years that has included Mr Trott being a rock for his wife as she deals with worsening dementia.
She said he had been wonderful.
‘He is so very patient,’ she said.
