Nearly 2,000 people walked either 10.5 miles from Grandes Rocques to St Peter Port or 3.5 miles starting at Bordeaux to raise money for the Pink Ladies charity, raising a total of £47,000.

Some of the funds raised will go towards purchasing scalp-cooling caps for Bulstrode Oncology, which help to reduce hair loss for patients.

The event was described by organisers as the wettest yet, with the downpour lasting most of the day and continuing into the evening’s after party in Town.

‘We are incredibly grateful for the support our community shows for people affected by breast cancer through participation in the biennial Pink Ladies Sunset Coastal Walk,’ said Pink Ladies chairwoman Karen Leach.

‘We’d like to thank everyone who took part and our sponsor TPA for helping us achieve such fantastic numbers this year.’

Through its partnership with other cancer charities and experts, the charity explores ways to support wellbeing initiatives such as mindfulness, coaching and psychological support.

TPA chief executive Tony Tostevin said the team thoroughly enjoyed working to organise the event, both in the marketing and preparation as well as the day itself.

‘We were thrilled to hear of the amazing numbers raised once again. The Pink Ladies are an important local charity and we are proud to support where we can.

‘We’re looking forward to 2023, let’s hope the rain holds off for that one.’

The next walk is due to take place on Saturday 24 June 2023.

In addition to raising awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, the charity offers emotional, practical and financial support for women in Guernsey with breast cancer.
