La Mare students raise a glass for World School Milk Day
MORE than a hundred glasses of Guernsey milk were served up to students at La Mare de Carteret High School in celebration of World School Milk Day yesterday.
Guernsey Dairy’s marketing lead Jon Taylor was on site serving students, and he explained the health benefits of milk as a natural post-exercise isotonic.
Each student was given a recyclable half-pint cup from the Dairy filled with Guernsey milk.
‘There are so many alternative drinks on shelves to tempt students,’ said Jason Dodd, assistant headteacher at La Mare de Carteret High School.
‘However, not only are these more expensive but they are also full of sugar.
‘It is great to hear about the natural goodness of Guernsey milk and I hope that the Dairy’s talk will help reinforce to our students the goodness of drinking milk each day.’
He also said it was an ideal post-exercise natural drink.
Students Chloe Markwick, 13, Rubi Hockey, 15, Aimee Martel, 13, and Molly Bougourd, 15, said they drank Guernsey milk every day in their tea and morning cereal.
Although they failed agree on the best product, Rubi said the red, full cream milk was her favourite – especially in a cup of hot chocolate.
Guernsey Dairy recently launched the ‘raise a glass for the health of the island’ campaign, which promotes the health benefits of milk.
‘The new ‘Raise a Glass’ campaign has been launched to remind islanders that Guernsey milk’s natural balance of carbohydrates, protein and nutrients make it a great post exercise recovery drink loved by many of our island’s leading sports stars,’ Mr Taylor said.
