Admiral Park pause is ‘really disappointing’
A PAUSE to the development of the second phase of Admiral Park has been described as disappointing by the president of the Development & Planning Authority.
Developer Comprop said the temporary halt was due to a change in circumstances with respect to the proposed tenant in phase two, which covers an office development and is on the eastern edge of the current development site to the rear of Trafalgar Court.
‘It’s really disappointing because we actually managed to get the planning application done in a timely manner,’ said DPA president Victoria Oliver, pictured.
‘They did say they had this anchor tenant and that is why we had to get the planning application done.
‘It was still went through all the processes but we did use our fast track process to do it.’
With Comprop already in discussion with new prospective tenants, she also said: ‘As with all planning applications, we do the application and then it’s up to the developers to find a tenant or to fill their building.
‘So from a personal aspect, I do hope they find another tenant so the building works can go ahead because it did look a very good development.’
It was also reassuring that Comprop remained committed to the project, she said.
The developer has said phase one of the scheme is due for completion at the end of the year – with no effect from the temporary pause on the next phase – and that it remained fully committed to its £40m. investment in the completion of this final part of Admiral Park.
‘That’s always a comfort when somebody is committed to the island.
‘Guernsey is a beautiful island, and does have some great aspects and can be economically driven,’ said Deputy Oliver.
