KGV is second site for water refill point

GUERNSEY WATER is continuing its campaign to reduce the level of single-use plastic bottle usage with the installation of its second permanent water refill station at the KGV.

The installation follows the first one earlier this year at the Liberation Monument.

The new location was chosen due to its high visitor numbers and because it would provide an out-of-Town facility.

KGV general manager Debbie Hunter said it was thrilled to have been chosen as the second site, especially given the popularity of the first station.

‘We are working hard to change the mentality of the users of KGV, encouraging them to bring reusable bottles and cutting down the availability of single use plastic on site,’ she said.

Guernsey Water managing director Steve Langlois said: ‘Every year the world produces around 381 million tonnes in plastic waste, so anything we can do to help reduce this is important.’

It is planned that a third water refill station will be installed at the reservoir later this year. There are also more than 100 refill business supporters in Guernsey, where people can get free water.

Health Improvement Commission community nutritionist Alex Kosmas welcomed the new facility.

‘The water refill station at KGV is located in a really busy area next to the pitches and its design stands out, which will hopefully encourage people to use it to refill their water bottle.’
