Some 30 different pieces were on display at St James, ranging from photography to sketches,

one of which was made with bees wax.

The art exhibition was curated by local artist Bridget Spinney, who teamed up with the Pollinator Project to organise the event.

Pollinator Project co-director Louise Gabriel said: ‘We wanted to do an art project with a pollination theme to raise awareness of the plight of our pollinators and to celebrate their role in our ecosystem.’

The project was open to all local artists, as well as people living off-island who have a close connection to Guernsey.

‘We pitched it to our artists as part of the community festival, and I think a lot of our artists also care about nature a lot,’ said Ms Gabriel.

More than 70% of crops that humans grow benefit from and depend on pollination to be consumable, and in the UK alone insects pollinate £690m.-worth of crops each year.

‘I don’t think people actually realise that,’ she said.

Although bees are associated with pollination the most, birds, bats and butterflies also have the same capability.

The exhibition was framed with a 30-30 theme in conjunction with Les Bourgs Hospice 30th anniversary.

‘We wanted to do something to give back.’

All of the artwork will be auctioned off after the exhibition, with proceeds being split equally between the Pollinator Project, Les Bourgs Hospice and covering the exhibition's costs.

St James Concert Hall will be hosting the exhibition until 26 November at 6.30pm, when Martel Maides will auction off all of the art.

Anyone wishing to bid can do so by visiting St James to submit a sealed bid or register for a phone bid through Martel Maides on 722700.
