The campaign, called ‘Girls Night In’, was recently launched in the UK after reports of women even being injected with unknown substances while on a night out.

‘It’s needed over here too,’ said one of the campaign organisers.

‘We have already had people reaching out and sharing their stories and saying it has happened to them.’

Organisers are campaigning for pubs and nightclubs to offer training to their staff to understand how to recognise and support anyone who has been spiked, as well as prevent people from spiking others.

‘They aren’t doing enough. Some venues do better than others, but we want places to let us know what they’re doing. You don’t see posters up about it, so we want them to let us know what they have in place.’

An Instagram page was created by the organisers on Monday to draw attention to the campaign, which gained more than 300 followers within the first hour of being set up.

‘It is a testament to how much of a problem it is.

‘We’re not exempt to being subjected to assault or harassment. We wanted to do it ahead of the Christmas party season.’

People are being asked to avoid town from the Val de Terres to the Pollet.

Organisers highlighted that men are also being encouraged to take part in the boycott.

‘No-one will be shamed for going out, we’re not trying to ruin anyone’s night, but we hope there will be a noticeable difference in the amount of people in Town.

‘It is sad having to go to these lengths because we don’t want to cause harm to local businesses, but that has what it’s come to.’

It is estimated that 97% of women will experience sexual assault at some point in their life.

‘I have friends and colleagues who have been spiked before, it’s not like you never hear about it over here, it just goes under the radar.’
