Co-organisers of the Self-Raisers, Deena Davidson and Anne Liu, were joined by 11 friends who all dressed up as characters from children’s stories, raising more than £500 for the charity through donations from the public.

‘Over the past 10 years we have dressed up and raised money for local charities,’ said Mrs Liu.

‘We travel around the island, visiting local watering holes and meeting a number of people in between who smile and laugh at the efforts that we put into the costumes.’

The group had a weekend staycation at the Imperial Hotel and stopped off at a number of pubs.

Mrs Davidson said the Self-Raisers had also supported Autism Guernsey last year.

‘I loved doing the weekend,’ she added.

Helen King also participated and said it was important to support local charities.

‘Autism Guernsey isn’t States-funded so we wanted to raise awareness and money for them.

‘There was so much support and so many people stopped in the street – children were recognising our costumes, so it was quite uplifting.’

Autism Guernsey fundraising manager Mandy Rowlinson said: ‘We are delighted that these wonderful volunteers have raised such an incredible amount for the charity.

‘Without fundraising events and donations such as these, we would be unable to continue to provide our services to the local autism community so we couldn’t be more appreciative. It looks like they all had an amazing time.’
