Teah Marquis, 21, one of the young people involved in the project to make plaques for the woodland walk at Les Cotils, was given the honour of performing the official opening. With her is Susie Gallienne, Wigwam’s family support co-ordinator.

The plaques were made by nine young people with additional needs over the summer at craft shop Iris and Dora as part of a project including multiple activities such as beach cleaning, helping in the St Peter’s Church garden, and cleaning cars.

‘Support, friendship, and information is our motto,’ said Wigwam family support co-ordinator Susie Gallienne.

‘Les Cotils are keen to support charities and we’re really keen to be supported.’

The plaques in the woodland area spell out a message, which is hoped to inspire those who come to enjoy the walk.

Teah Marquis, a spokeswoman for the group, and one of the young adults involved with the project, hoped lots of different people would enjoy the walk.

‘I want them to have fun,’ she said. ‘I was thinking my friends would want to come.’

Ms Gallienne said Wigwam and Les Cotils were working in partnership to give young people new opportunities and Les Cotils managing director Fiona Naftel agreed.

‘Les Cotils is a charity and we have all this great space of 11 acres – we want to encourage charities to use this,’ she added.

‘Any money we make at Les Cotils goes back to the community.’

She expressed her thanks to the community service workers who sorted out the area while on probation.

She also encouraged members of the public to go and enjoy the walk, which is next to the Peace Garden and has a beautiful view looking out to Herm.
