We will be back next year bigger and better – organiser

IT started as a comment on a Facebook, but it might become an island tradition, as the Guernsey Christmas Tractor Run was a huge success on Saturday.

More than 35 tractors, all decorated with Christmas lights, made the journey from Vazon around the north of the island to Forest Stores on Saturday evening, and were cheered on by countless islanders who came outside to watch.

One of the organisers, Ben Le Page, said the positive feedback was still coming in.

‘Everyone just pulled together and to get all the support was absolutely amazing,’ he said.

‘I’m still reading through the comments on Facebook and the feedback is incredible.’

The run was inspired by a video on Facebook, which was shared to the Guernsey People Have Your Say page, and a group of locals made the event a reality in Guernsey.

‘We made a page on Facebook and it went absolutely viral,’ said Mr Le Page.

More than 1,200 people said they were interested in the event on Facebook alone.

‘It’s mental – it just went absolutely crazy. We got around 36 or 37 tractors and we only aimed to get five or six.’

Following the event’s success, Mr Le Page said the Guernsey Christmas Tractor Run would definitely happen again next year.

‘It will 100% be done next year. I’ve never seen so many of the public out on their doorsteps in their pyjamas with some wine.’

He thanked all who were involved, from the Bachmann family for the use of their sleigh from Winter Wonderland and the public for their support, to Guernsey Police, Civil Protection and of course the drivers.

‘It will be bigger and better next year,’ Mr Le Page promised.
