Guernsey's Covid case numbers set new record over Christmas
NEARLY 1,000 new cases of Covid were identified in Guernsey over Christmas, taking the Bailiwick to more than 1,500 active cases.
It surpasses the record peak of just over 1,000 active cases set just before Christmas Eve.
The five-day festive period saw a spike in numbers, with 987 new cases found since Christmas Eve. The peak in new cases came on Tuesday - the most recent day for the data - when 410 people tested positive.
There are now 1,541 active cases in the Bailiwick and five people are in hospital with Covid.
The Omicron variant is the most prevalent variant in the island and is expected to have been driving up the number of cases.
The latest figures mean that more than 7,400 people have tested positive since the pandemic began in early 2020.
