Crowdfunding campaign after play equipment damaged by vandals
NEARLY £600 has been raised by a parent hoping to help fund replacement playground equipment for the Bright Beginnings Children’s Centre.
The Delancey site was targeted by vandals between 4pm on Friday 17 December and 8am the following Monday, 20 December
A number of fixtures and play equipment were damaged, leaving shards of broken glass, nails and wood on the playground surface.
Bright Beginnings offers a combination of free and paid for services as part of the local Guernsey charity, Every Child Our Future.
It was founded in 2016 and is the only children’s centre in Guernsey.
Director Rachel Copeland said it was sad to see the children’s equipment had been damaged or destroyed.
‘Our staff rallied immediately and we are very grateful to them and to Guernsey Police for their prompt response,’ she said.
‘We have also been heartened by the kindness of parents and other supporters and especially to Kristy Webber who immediately set up a crowdfunding page to fund the repairs and to install CCTV.’
Miss Webber’s two-year-old daughter, Elsie, has attended the nursery for nearly two years. So far the fundraiser has raised £590 of the £1,500 target.
Miss Webber said she heard about the damage on the news and wanted to do something, so set up the Just Giving page.
‘Everyone there is so nice and all through lockdown they were amazing,’ she said.
‘It’s just really upsetting that these things happen.’
