Public’s generosity ‘amazing’, says woman behind fundraiser
A MUM has been blown away by public support, after more than £1,500 was raised in just three days to replace damaged playground equipment.
The Bright Beginnings Children’s Centre playground was targeted by vandals just before Christmas, leaving equipment broken, and broken
glass and nails around the site.
The act shocked the community and led to Kristy Webber setting up a Just Giving page to raise £1,500 to replace the damaged equipment at the Delancey Park site.
In three days the full £1,500 target has been raised, with a final donor giving just over £100 to reach the total.
‘It’s amazing,’ said Miss Webber, whose two-year-old daughter attends the centre, which is run by a charity.
‘I’m quite surprised, but really pleased. The target of £1,500 was a bit of stab in the dark. I did not expect to get there.’
She was hopeful this would be enough money to replace the play equipment and help the centre install CCTV to stop any further damage.
She added that it was important to note that the centre was run by a charity, meaning that every penny was important.
Miss Webber said she was in touch with the centre manager, who was also very pleased with the news.
The Just Giving page shows that more than 50 people donated to the appeal. In total £1,510 had been raised at the end of yesterday.
The centre reopens after the winter break on Tuesday.
