Priaulx Library to close on Monday for reorganisation
THE Priaulx Library will be closed from Monday for reorganisation of stock.
Chief librarian Sue Laker said it planned to reorganise large areas of the first two floors.
‘We plan to consolidate all local history on the ground floor,’ said Miss Laker.
The work will last just under a month, with the reopening date planned for 7 February.
Miss Laker, who has been working at the library since 2006, believed this will be beneficial for the public because it will be easier to browse local material all in one place.
The library has an online catalogue which allows users to search for what they want.
‘The fewer places they have to look, the better,’ said Miss Laker.
The Guernsey language collection and Billets will be moved to the ground floor while the Groves military collection will be relocated to the first floor.
‘We don’t expect everything to be done within the month,’ said Miss Laker.
‘We have a very small staff at the moment, but everyone that can be working on it will be.
‘Thankfully we have a lift that goes up to the first floor, but no further.’
Other plans for the future include reboxing old newspapers and creating new signage for the move.
