The £3.88m. project started in August 2019 to replace the 20-year-old crematorium equipment and upgrade the chapel and grounds.

But the work has taken longer than planned

A Property Services spokesman said the project had been progressing.

‘Works have continued at Le Foulon throughout the periods of lockdown, however, there were some delays due to the measures put in place to protect staff and contractors,’ he said.

‘The work to replace the end-of-life existing unit with new bariatric cremators, install new flue gas abatement plant and make improvements to the chapel and surrounding areas is now well progressed. The new cremators are now fully functional and the old cremator plant has been removed.’

The building works are due to be completed in the first quarter of this year.
