There will be a four-day bank holiday to commemorate and celebrate the Queen’s 70 years of service in June.

Proposed events and legacy projects in Guernsey will align with the programme of official events held in the UK over the bank holiday weekend, to allow the people of Guernsey to be part of the Jubilee weekend.

‘The four-day bank holiday weekend in June will be a historic occasion as Her Majesty The Queen becomes the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee,’ said Education, Sport & Culture member Deputy Sue Aldwell.

‘We have been developing plans so that the Guernsey community can enjoy the occasion, including the exciting launch of our competition today to design the island’s platinum jubilee flag.

‘We hope we’ll receive lots of creative designs and look forward to announcing the winner, which will then be sent to Her Majesty as a tribute from the island.’

Individuals, schools, and community groups are being invited to work up their proposals for a flag.

Plans for the four-day bank holiday weekend in June include the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at Castle Cornet and a family fun afternoon with movies and entertainment before the screening of the evening concert at Buckingham Palace.

Featuring some of the world’s best entertainers, the concert will be shown live on the big screen in the grounds of Government House, supported by local brass bands and special guests on Saturday 4 June.

Arts Sunday, Platinum Jubilee Celebration, organised by Guernsey Arts, featuring stalls, music and entertainment will take place on Sunday 5 June from 10am to 4pm along the seafront in St Peter Port.

Legacy projects will see parish Jubilee planting displays, with each parish invited to plant a Jubilee display in a prominent position to win a Platinum Jubilee Floral Guernsey discretionary award. This will be conjunction with the Floral Guernsey Community Competition 2022.

The Weighbridge Mast will fly the winning Platinum Jubilee Guernsey flag, and be decorated in Jubilee bunting and feature a Platinum Jubilee emblem planting display on the roundabout in St Peter Port.

Island schools will benefit from the Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting ‘a tree for every class’ project.

Every child in full-time education will receive a Jubilee commemorative 50p coin in a presentation pack.
