Guernsey Fire & Rescue and the police were called out at about 1am on Monday morning.

Two water tenders and a crew of nine were sent out to put out the flames.

‘We were able to get the fire under control, and managed to mitigate any environmental risks to the surrounding ponds. Once the area was made safe it was handed over to Guernsey Police,’ said GFRS duty officer Dave Hockey.

Police vehicles were stationed at each end of Rue Du Galaad while the fire was extinguished.

‘Our priority this morning was making sure it was safe and secure prior to staff and students entering the site,’ said an Education spokesman.

The area has now been cordoned off with large fencing.

Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

Anyone with information about what may have caused the fire should contact PC 68 Winberg on 222222 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
