Island experienced a windy but warmest February in 15 years
GUERNSEY had it warmest February in 15 years, and overall the winter was the 10th-warmest on record.
The Guernsey Met Office round up of the month’s weather confirmed that the average air temperature for the month was 8.6C – well above the 30-year average of 6.9C.
‘With a marked absence of any wintry conditions, we ended up with the warmest February since 2007 and the ninth-warmest on record, going back to 1843,’ a spokesman said.
‘Sunshine was given a late boost with just under a third of the month’s total accrued in the last four days, nudging the total for February just over the long term average.’
In total there were 92 hours of sunshine over the month.
While six days of the month had no sunshine, the 26th and 27th both had 10 hours. The 30-year average was 87 hours.
Over the month 78mm of rain fell.
‘Rainfall was just above normal with the 13th producing the wettest February day for eight years, with 21.7mm.’
Storms Dudley, Eunice and Franklin all affected the island, with Eunice bringing a wind speed of 69mph.
But overall the winter saw the island suffer little very cold weather.
‘[It] ended up 1C above average, making it the 10th warmest on record,’ the spokesman said.
‘Both rainfall and sunshine were less than average, with rainfall around half of last winter’s total.’
