Registration opens for RBC Walk of Hope 2022
REGISTRATION has opened for a sunrise walk which is aiming to raise awareness of mental health.
The 2022 RBC Walk of Hope for Guernsey Mind will be taking place on Sunday 26 June.
The event aims to raise awareness and conversations around mental health and suicide.
With more than 600 walkers taking part in 2021 and more than £4,000 raised, Guernsey Mind has been able to train many of the island’s blue light sector in a newly-launched suicide first aid certificate as a key part of the charity’s suicide prevention strategy.
The walk will start just before sunrise, with participants walking along the east coast into the light of the rising sun – a path that Guernsey Mind wants to help people in suicide crisis take from a dark and often lonely place
into the light of a network of support.
Guernsey Mind’s events and fund-raising lead, Maddy Diligent, said it was grateful for sponsorship support from RBC.
‘With RBC’s help and sponsorship, the event will hopefully attract more walkers and reach even more people,’ she said.
‘This support means we can continue with the work in the community we are doing surrounding suicide awareness and prevention, through not only one-to-one therapeutic support but also with our suicide first aid certificate training.’
Lisa Barnett, managing director at RBC Wealth Management International, Guernsey, said it was proud to sponsor the event.
‘There has been a significant impact on mental health since Covid, so looking after ourselves and one another has never been more important,’ she said.
‘This walk acts as a symbol of hope – and coming together as a community to raise awareness and show that help and support is out there for those who need it is something RBC is honoured to be a part of.’
An Alderney walk will take place on the same day. More details of this will be released closer to the day.
