Wing mirrors were torn from multiple cars and kick marks and scratches could also be seen after the vandalism spree that took place on Friday night.

A similar event happened in February 2021.

‘I still have damage on my car from the last time it happened,’ said Bunty De Putron, who had her car scratched while parked outside her house last year.

‘The garage told me it would cost a bomb, and I’m not sure that it is covered by insurance.’

She said she was lucky this time, as she was not on-island when the vandalism occurred.

CCTV footage from the night showed a group of people walking down the road, shouting and laughing while they damaged the parked cars.

One resident said she thought groups of young people could be responsible.

‘I don’t think it is drunk people. I think it is little groups of people that goad each other, they probably just think it is fun,’ she said.

Her husband’s car was scratched so badly in the last spree that it had to be resprayed.

‘It’s usually pretty quiet – sometimes we will have a lager can left by the gate but that is all.’

The damage was believed to have been caused between 11.15 and 11.30pm.

Police are investigating the incident and asking anyone with private or commercial CCTV in the George Road and Hauteville area to get in touch.
