Local artist Tiffany Matthews, inset, has sold one of her paintings, The King Of Diamonds, to Randi Zuckerberg, the sister of Facebook founder Mark.

Miss Zuckerberg, the former director of market development and spokeswoman for Facebook, bought the painting, The King of Diamonds, through an NFT (non-fungible token) site.

‘An NFT is a digital asset that represents real-world objects like art, music, in-game items and videos,’ explained Miss Matthews, who now lives in Portugal.

‘Randi saw my artwork after sharing it among some Women in NFT pages on Twitter, she’s a pioneer of Women in NFT and Web3, so it’s been a real boost to have her support of my first collection.

‘I obviously didn’t believe it was really her as she private messaged me, so I did some checks on the profile and page first but all was legit and I couldn’t actually believe it.’

Miss Matthews sold the painting for 3 Ethereum – a technology that is home to digital money, global payments, and applications – which equates to about £8,000.

‘NFT is a great forum for my art to be seen around the world, there has been interest from the USA to Dubai, which before this NFT project was a goal of mine.’

The King of Diamonds was one in a series of four paintings, and the remaining three are being auctioned off.

‘People can bid for the remaining three pieces on my OpenSea page from 8pm today. If anyone wants to know more they can email nft@tiffany.gg where my team will be able to help.

‘The pieces are available to view at the open evening in my studio in Fountain Street today between 5.30 and 8pm.

‘The auction runs for six days, where hopefully we’ll have three new owners for my NFT collection.’

Miss Matthews was born in Guernsey and educated at The Ladies’ College. She is a self-taught artist.

‘I relocated to Portugal as I wanted some fresh inspiration' she said.

'I also wanted to paint more outside and test out new ideas in a different country.

‘I’ll be doing more collections later this year, including Queens and Aces as well as a larger project inspired by my Cosmos works.’
