Hauteville House ready to welcome tourists for first time since 2019
Hauteville House will reopen to the public — including tourists — on Saturday for its first summer season in three years.
In 2020 the house was open solely to locals and last year saw the complete closure of the iconic property due to Covid-19.
‘We are ready to get started,’ said house administrator Odile Blanchette.
‘We don’t know how many visitors to expect this year, but we hope to welcome many.
‘It will be very nice to go back to normal.’
She said they hope to attract more visitors from the UK and France.
‘We are also seeing more and more locals coming for tours of the house,’ said Mrs Blanchette.
In preparation for opening day, the team has been frantically cleaning and repainting the house.
‘We have done a lot of maintenance for the tourist season.’
In 2019, the house underwent major refurbishment to fix structural issues and gather authentic materials.
Mrs Blanchette said she was eager for more tourists to explore the refurbished house.
As part of the maintenance, the team sent off lighting and furniture to Paris for restoration which is expected to be returned next week.
‘It will be nice to rediscover these items,’ added Mrs Blanchette.
She said bookings have already been made for the opening day.
‘With my deputies and the new team of guides we are looking forward to welcoming our visitors for the season,’ she said.
The team will start with four guides in April, rising to seven from May to September.
They plan to host events in the near future, including a lecture as part of the festival of literature.
Booking is now open for the summer season.
