Planners put forward a draft development framework for up to 22 new dwellings behind L’Aumone House and several homes on Rue De Friquet.

Semi-retired resident Geoff Simon lives in the house where an access point is proposed to be constructed.

‘The access would be through my driveway. I’m happy for it to go ahead and for L’Aumone to be more built up,' he said.

He said that he would not put forward any objections should the development be advanced to a planning application.

The proposal is in line with the Development & Planning Authority’s intentions to focus new properties within local centres.

School site supervisor Richard Moulin has lived in his home for four years, during which he has made significant structural improvements to the property.

He said as long as his house was not demolished he would support the proposals.

‘We asked to be kept involved in it but we hadn’t heard much when the framework came through. We don’t want our house knocked down, we have only just had our driveway put in and a new garage.

‘I would want it to be bungalows so it’s not looking over us. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against building houses, everyone always says not to built on their doorstep.’

Half of the land belonging to retired bank manager Steve Henry would make up part of the new site.

He has lived in his home for 25 years.

‘Guernsey needs properties, so we would be giving up half of our land.

‘The house wouldn’t be demolished. It would be awful to lose green fields, but the garden used to be a greenhouse site, it’s not like it is agricultural land,’ he said.

‘They seem to be very much aware of things – that you have to have parking for so many cars and enough bike spaces. It is well thought out.’

The planners are asking for islanders' opinions on the idea. The deadline for this is Friday 27 May.
