A number of people taking part really got into the spirit by wearing colours to match the flag of the country they were supporting.

Liberate CEO Ellie Jones donned a pale yellow top and blue dungarees to support the Ukrainian entry.

‘We do this every couple of years,’ she said.

‘It is the campest night of the year and there are lots of people enjoying themselves.’

Among the people was Aaron Shepherd and Jordan Lees.

Mr Lees was cheering for Ukraine.

‘They need all the support they can get.’

But Mr Shepherd was more discerning.

‘I haven’t seen any of the acts in advance, so I can decide on the night. They need to charm us. They need to have good costumes and a good song.’
