Covid testing tent to be packed away

THE East Arm Covid-19 testing tent is finally being dismantled following the removal of the tent at the hospital back in March due to scaled back PCR testing.

Harbours will be storing part of it and the plans are being retained so it can be re-erected quickly if needed.

Director of Public Health Dr Nicola Brink said at the time that taking down the hospital tent was a pivotal moment for the island and the East Arm tent would be next to follow.

The testing facilities at the airport have also been decommissioned, however the structure installed to cater for PCR tests on arrival still remains in place.

PCR tests are currently only available on a limited basis, such as when islanders are admitted to vulnerable settings, for example the hospital, prison or carehomes, and pre-travel PCR testing will continue to be available via GP practices.

Yesterday’s updated Covid statistics showed an increase in the number of cases.

There are 335 active cases – 333 of which are located in Guernsey, of which 270 are newly identified cases in the last week.

There are currently less than five hospital patients in the Bailiwick with a recent Covid-19 diagnosis.

Islanders are still encouraged to stay at home if they are unwell or if they have tested positive for Covid and to test using LFTs if symptomatic, as the island moves forward to live responsibly with the virus.
