The pub has been supporting and donating to the specialist dementia care home since it opened in 2017. Manager Moira Boyd said that this year staff and locals ‘excelled themselves.’

‘Vanessa [Pilot, landlady] has always done an Easter raffle and donated the money to us since we started up and we rely on donations to keep the home running,’ she said.

‘It supports anything from small items like books to crafting and outings and activities.’

Greenacres deputy manager Tania Russell knows the landlords of the London House – Vanessa Pilot and Peter Emans – very well and the relationship between the residents and the pub grew from there.

‘We started bringing the residents here on outings and now we come here at least once a month,’ said Ms Boyd.

‘They know the place so well that they feel comfortable here.’

The money donated to the care home will go towards an electric tricycle cargo bike to take the residents out in, which was estimated to cost about £8,550. The home is now about halfway to its target.

‘For the raffle we wanted to choose something to support where we knew the money would really be going to good use,’ said Ms Pilot.

‘Two of my aunties have suffered with dementia and so we know it is going to a good cause.’

Ms Boyd said that for her, it was important to recognise the efforts of staff and locals at the London House, and thanked them for their continued welcoming environment and support.
